Bus hostess murdered in Faisalabad for turning down marriage proposal

FAISALABAD: Umer Daraz, a man accused of killing a bus hostess in Faisalabad city of Punjab province confessed to sexually harassing and murdering the young woman for refusing his marriage proposal, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

“She refused my marriage proposal so I killed her… I can only say sorry to her family,” the accused told media.

Police say the accused is already married and has two children.

Umer Daraz, a security guard by profession, was arrested for killing bus hostess Mehwish Arshad on June 9 on a bus terminal.

Mehwish Arshad’s family claimed that Umer Daraz used to sexually harass the deceased and repeatedly asked her to marry him despite the bus hostess’ refusal.

In a video doing rounds on social media, Umer Daraz can be seen threatening Mehwish for refusing his advances while a CCTV footage related to the incident shows Mehwish climbing stairs of a bus terminal when Umer Daraz comes up and holds her by the wrist. As the girl tries to free herself, the security guard shoots her.

The First Information Report, registered by Mehwish’s family, says the bus hostess was later rushed to the hospital where she breathed her last.
